-{}-{}-{}-{}-{} BRACES FACES -{}-{}-{}-{}-{}-{}

lately I have been noticing sooooo many people with braces... like its really crazy!! I obviously never took any notice before I had them myself, but I will probably see no less then 5 people with them everyday! There either customers that come into my work, students at my university or just people in the general public.

Today I was at the Royal Easter Show in Sydney and no kidding, almost every 2nd teenager that walked past had a set of gleaming braces. I saw these twin girls who both had matching braces :) felt a bit sorry for the parents who had to hand out $$ for two lots of braces at one time. ouch!!

Anyways...has anyone else been noticing lots of people with braces?? Its kinda nice to know your not the only one out there with them.. hahaha the world is full of braces faces :)

7 months with Braces!

I cant believe how fast the last 7 months has gone!! This is my current smile and bite.. It has "opened" up even more since September 2010 and I am finding it even more difficult to eat certain food! Im also experiencing allot of joint pain and sore teeth in the mornings as my bite never sits comfortably at night and shifts around. I also heavily grind my back teeth.. I'm really worried about how worn down they are getting.. Bring on MAY 26th!!!!!!!
42 days to go!!!!!!!!!

Blood tests and final appointments

Today I met again with my surgeon to further discuss everything leading up to the big day of my surgery on May 26th. We discussed how long I will need to stay in hospital after the surgery and what to expect for the first few weeks of recovery. It is most likely that I will stay in intensive care for 2-3 days and then move to another ward for another 2 days.. So hopefully no more then 5 days in hospital :)

I am really happy with the amount of post surgery care I will receive from the private hospital and from my surgeon. After I am out of the hospital and back home I will continue to see my surgeon almost every day so he can review my progress and make sure I'm doing ok.. He made it very clear that my health and recovery is his top priority!! Hearing this from him today totally boosted my confidence about it all. VERY Happy I have such an experienced and well regarded surgeon :)

I also had a blood test done today at a pathology center to check my Hemoglobin levels and make sure everything else is ok with my blood. I am a regular blood donor for the Australian Red Cross so I am very familiar with having blood samples taken and getting big needles stuck into my arm... All good fun!! :) I've actually been told not to donate anymore because of this surgery. My last donation was in January and they keep contacting me, asking me to please donate again but I cant because I need ALL my blood to remain for me and me only!! HaHa. I might actually have to donate a unit of my own blood incase they need it for a blood transfusion during the surgery.

Wow super busy with appointments in april/May but I feel like Im finally on the home stretch now...YAY!!!

*28th April: Final Orthodontist checkup and adjustment before surgical posts.
*3rd May: Visit Sydney Oral Design to have my model impressions and splints made.
*10th May: Back to see my surgeon to discuss models and his surgical plan.
*19th May: Surgical posts placed on by Orthodontist.
*26th May: SURGARY DAY!!!!

Braces to Fiji and back...... & NEW SURGERY DATE!!!

BULA!!! Hey Guys,

I have just returned from an amazing week away with 5 friends in Fiji. The weather was absolutely perfect and sunny everyday! I had a great time snorkeling, jet boating, relaxing by the pool and drinking many yummy cocktails :) Im so glad I remembered to pack by braces wax as it definitely came in handy. I got a few ulcers while I was away which was a bit annoying and sore but the holiday was well worth it.. :)

Ok so my BIG NEWS is that my surgery date has been pushed forward by 2 WEEKS!!! which means my new surgery date is now May 26th, four days after I finish my Uni semester and 46 days from today!!! arghhh I cant believe how close it is now!!

My surgeon felt that I needed to allow extra time for healing and recovery as my original date would have only allowed me 6 weeks of recovery time before I had to return back to classes. As I am having double jaw surgery, a geniploasty and a septoplasty done together, 8 weeks is much better for me. I most likely will still have some numbness and slight swelling after 8 weeks but should be eating solid food and have full movement of my jaw by then :)

The only downside to the change of date is that I now miss out on my friends wedding on the 4th June :( I really wish I could attend but after only 9 days post op I think it will be unlikely. I guess we will see how I go.. who knows I may feel well enough to sit at the back for half an hour (drugged up of course) so I can at least see her walk down the aisle. I don't care about the amount of swelling I may have.. I just want to see her in her beautiful dress :)
