More profile photos. Pre Surgery

Today I took a few more profile photos so I could show you a front view perspective and close up of my teeth/bite. As much as I hate taking these photos, I think its really necessary so I can compare the before and after result and be totally amazed at how different my profile will look after the surgery.

From a front view you will notice how elongated my face looks and also my receded chin.
This is me attempting to relaxed my face. It actually feels so un-natural and uncomfortable to put my lips together like this.. I feel like my whole face is strained and it definitely shows... so annoying!! I also find it very hard to breath properly when my lips are closed like this. I never seem to able to get enough air though my deviated nose. I constantly have to breath though my mouth.

I have a mega gummy smile - It's also crooked- tilts up slightly on one side. (see how I show more gum on one side)

Left side profile: Smile and lips closed

Right side profile: Smile and lips closed

This is my current smile! I actually love my teeth they are almost perfectly straight.. My Ortho is very pleased with how they have come along in the last 6months. He just wants to bring my top front tooth (right) down slightly to meet the other one. He put a deviation in the wire so that this could occur. Besides this minor adjustment I am really happy with how they look :)
I was actually really fortunate that my teeth didn't move that much since getting my last pair off back in 2003. My open bite however, has become more prominent since the braces were put on. Technical word for this is "decompensation" of the malocclusion.

  1. Hey Rhianna thanks for checking out my blog. I'm following yours as well. June 9th...an official date. How exciting! I don't even have an exact date yet. My ortho said I'll be ready in either August or September, which means I'll be following your progress to anticipate what will happen.

You are three months away from never having to worry about the strain of mouth closure again. I think the braces have made the strain worse. Don't you think? Good luck. Keep posting.

  2. Thanks for following Kristi.. Yes 3 months is going to fly by!! Its so great that your having your jaw done this year too. I Hope you get your surgery date really soon. Its such a wonderful feeling to have a date locked in :)
Yes I totally agree that the braces make the face strain harder. My braces over the last 6mths have "opened" up my bite even more so its getting much harder to close my lips.. there quite amazing little bits of metal really.. They can do so much in such a short amount of time :)
